Introduction

Research is one of the most confusing aspects about Azur Lane. This guide hopes to give players a comprehensive overview of the Fleet Technology, Research Academy, and Shipyard tabs of the Lab.

Fleet Technology

Main Article: Fleet Technology Guide

Shipyard

This is where you unlock and develop Shipyard ships.

Coin-up

All PR1, PR2/DR2, PR3/DR3, and PR4 ships can have their prints be bought with coins! PR and DR Coin-up are seperate. See this wiki page for more information.

Recommended Shipyard Priority

Recommended Development Order:

High Priority:

Unfortunately, it is very unrealistic to start with the High Priority targets. Therefore, here are other priorities to focus on.

Other Priorities:

Shipyard Priority by Season:

Research Academy

Research Focus and Catch-up are seperate!!!

Notice in the "Research Focus UI" image, "Research Focus" is listed seperately! Read the below sections for more information.

Purpose of Research

To get PR / DR Blueprints to use in Shipyard, as well as Equipment Designs to craft into gear.

Research Focus

When a season is focused, at least 3 out of the 5 available Research Projects will be from that season.

Research Focus Optimization:

Select PR4 or PR5 focus unless you know what you are doing. They have the best ships and gear.

Why not PR1, PR2, PR3?

Catch-up

When a ship is selected for catch-up, every research you complete will always give a minimum of 1 additional print that is for the catch-up ship selected.

What you get from Catch-up:

You can only do one catch-up at a time, but there is no time limit. It is recommended to do the PR catch-ups before the DR catch-ups.

Recommended Catch-up selections: See this section for more information.

For PR Catch-up Min-Maxing: See this section for more information.

Everything else falls into this category. If you are forced to pick one due to all the options being terrible, pick the shortest option that doesn't cost cubes, regardless of if the ships in the season are maxed or not. Save your refresh button for times like these.

PR Catch-up Min-Maxing

This method involves manipulating Research to allow you to convert all the Catch-up prints from a season into Prototype Core. This is only recommended for PR1 and PR2. Do NOT do this with any of the DR Catch-ups!

  1. Set your Catch-up to PR4, PR5, or any DR ship.

  2. Research a PR ship that is of the same season that you want to convert Catch-up prints for. Any PR ship works.

  3. While your valuable (PR4, PR5, DR) Catch-up prints are slowly trickling in, obtain and develop the ship from Step 2 using coins until the ship is development level 30. This entire process should take about 50 days or less, assuming you are spending 3000 Coin Coins daily.

    • After the ship is obtained, feel free to go back and develop a ship from a different, less-valuable (PR1, PR2) Catch-up season, or a different ship from any season. Always have a ship being developed at all times!

  4. After the ship from Step 2 is Development Level 30, set your Catch-up to that ship.

    • If you are not finished with the valuable (PR4, PR5, DR) Catch-up prints, it is fine to remain on the valuable Catch-up and come back to this step later.

    • You do NOT need to focus on Fate Simulation for this ship.

  5. Convert all prints of that ship into Prototype Core Prototype Core in the Prototype Shop. This should take about 2 months to convert all the prints.

    • While these prints are trickling in, feel free to continue developing more PR/DR ships on the side.

  6. Repeat these steps until all desired Catch-up prints are converted into Prototype Core Prototype Core.

Optimizing Protocore

Ideally, the total Protocore income is 5000 Prototype Core from the methods listed above.
